Hello again Malcolm - I have just been looking at the 1881 Census and found William Dent who is married to Mary A Dent (the ages are slightly different to yours - William at that time was 36 and Mary was 29).  They have children - William aged 12 born in Grimsby, George A aged 10 born in Grimsby, Ambrose W. aged 2 born in Grimsby and Ann E aged 2 months born in Grimsby.  They also had two brother in laws living with them - William Horton aged 18 and James Horton aged 15 - both labourers.  Also living with them was a boarder - John W Mumby a labourer aged 23.  Could the William Dent aged 12 on this Census be the William Dent who married Elizabeth Ashby in 1899 - he would be then aged 30 years.  It seems possible because the children's names are similar to the names given to William and Mary A.'s children and often names are continued down through the generations.  This is just a thought and would need checking out by looking at the second William's marriage certificate where it would tell you the name of his father, or by looking in the parish registers for the time.  I frequently go to the Lincoln Archives and could look it up for you if they have the parish records for St. Andrew's Church in Grimsby - though it won't be for about three weeks as I will be away in Holland on holiday.  See what you think about these records - it might be worth checking.  I will send off my records tomorrow for you.  Sue Green
